It’s Friday! Time to kick back, relax, and take a break from the daily routine. The weekends can fly by and before we know it, it’s Sunday evening, and the anxiety is already building for what’s to come at 8:00am on Monday morning. And according to recent research, here in the US, that anxiety is extra high. A study from Monster.com reported that 76% of Americans say that their Sunday Night Blues are really bad, in comparison to just 46% of the rest of the world’s population.
So how do you get the most out of the weekend and really maximize that R&R time so that the Sunday night blues aren’t so bad? Here are 5 tips on how to make the most out of this weekend and every weekend going forward:
- Take a break from work. That’s right: actually give it a rest. Make a decision on Friday evening to turn off your work mode. Be okay relaxing, guilt-free.
- Don’t spend your day sleeping late. Although you may be tempted to, sleeping the day away will take away from the valuable tie you have to make the most of the day. It can also interfere with your sleep schedule going in to the week. If you’re tired, take a short power nap on Saturday or Sunday afternoon!
- Don’t leave ALL your chores and cleaning for the weekend. Growing up, Saturdays were often meant for cleaning bathrooms and dusting. Make a list to tackle some cleaning tasks throughout the week so you have that time for friends and family!
- Unplug & Detach. Being constantly connected to smartphones and social media spreads your attention thin, thus depleting your energy at a time when you’re trying to recharge. If you go for a walk or by the pool, read a book, or talk with someone and leave the phone behind for a while.
- Balance between planning ahead and going with the flow. Look forward to activities and have plans in place, but be flexible and don’t pack the weekend too tightly. Allow yourself to have a quiet Saturday morning, plan a hike or movie for the afternoon, and invite friends over for a casual dinner at night!
Own your weekend! Use it to relax, get refreshed and mitigate those sneaky Sunday night blues!
